The circle circuit is not a true circle in shape, of course. It is a circle in that it is a continuous loop that recycles gas and an anesthetic agent from the patient. It is the endpoint of gas delivery to the patient. The function of any breathing circuit is to deliver oxygen and anesthetic gases and eliminate carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide may be eliminated by either washout with the adequate fresh gas flow (FGF), or by soda lime absorption.
